Title: Approaching 1/8/06 SPF First Anniversary
Post by: cenacle on January 03, 2006, 07:29:05 PM
It's nearing a year since the new SPF rose from the ashes of the old one. What do people think of this new home? What directions should we take it in? New forums? Fundraising? T-shirts? Collaborative projects with other entheogenic websites? I propose we get a rousing thread going here of what we like, what works, what doesn't, what we dream SPF can become in 2006 and beyond....

As a few will note, I only have access from the library...  That said; I'm shocked that some others have not rung in here to voice whatever varied opinion about our lil niche here....   C'mon peeps:  'ya can't be that hungover sinece new year, and that damn Fin sent all the stripperz away, so lets hear one and all opine......   As far as running my own mouth; I must say I think we've had a pretty much total resurrection!!  Seems comfortable to me, and I can't say I have any particular input as to how to expand/contract, or if anything else is truly necessary....   Wellllllll now, here's to the next year--------------  sal

well, well! A person goes and has a wild celebration of a union in a public place with chicken dancers and now he thinks we all wanna chicken dance?
well, well.

i think along similar lines to the honourable Senor. The only thing i'd like is a new colour for this board, but even with this silver-blue environment, the new spf is just fine.

People come, people go. New discoveries are made. It's bound to grow this year as more people tell more people.

No need to change the curtains or clean out the fridge - it's all part of the landscape.

but thanks for askin, Cen. Perhaps others will express their wish list.

this thread came out of a chat i had with Roach, his thoughts having to do with fundraising, stirring up the dust a bit...i agree this site is rocking along, & i'd like to see it do more so...we seem to have settled in, the great '05 dramas come and gone...but i do think we have great further potential...for example, i'd dig wearing an SPF t-shirt...i'd like to see the forums/chat/radio tied a little more closely together...i'd like to do some collaboration with other sites...and there are many ideas i don't have that someone else could come up with...

the chicken dance rocked! tune stays in your head for a long time, like a bad cold

The chicken dance?? Man that's worse than the Macerna!!  And this attitude is why I don't play at more weddings(one of the best kinds of gigs I know)

As far as the site goes, onward and upward is my motto. Things had slowed to a crawl but seem to be picking up.

My question is how do we attract more quality people? We need more!! More of everything!!

I for one would love a t-shirt, I think it would be a great fundraiser.  Second, the gallery has been down for quite some time.  Third, I second roach, as there is a lot of people who have registered, but never have posted.  Not saying that it is bad, just wish more people would post.  It gets quite around here sometimes......too quite.  I do not think that we need to advertise this site, but just let it out slowly as you guys have always done.  Just my two cents from a newbie.

I dunno, spf seems nice the way it is. I guess I agree with judih on that. Are we raising money already? Those who want a T shirt could get together and work something out. If we needed to raise money we could have a classified ad forum and charge something to put one in.

I do not think that we should do ads, but with the t-shirt thing it would be nice to raise a little money to pay back the guys who are making it and maybe a little for something around here don't know what for but that is up to you mods.  I think Judih is right and that this place should be way it always has been...a nice little community of friends, without the vulgarity, ads, and flaming as in many other sites.

I dunno about you guys, but I've got a T-Shirt. The ones that were made by Gwyllm right before the demise of the old SPF.

Oh god, not the t-shirts again, that debacle almost shook apart the community last time.

Let's do SPF thongs this time.

ahhh, some history eh mok ... well, that was a dispute between eddy and the forestfloor peeps which didn't involve anyone else from spiritplants cept that some of us tried to resolve it by offering to pay his debt.
I am almost certain that would not happen again, as Veracohr and others have shown by the successful T.Shirt venture he mentioned.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US
I agree that we should use this anniversary as a prompt to get posting.
We don't need money until Andy gives the word  then we will really have to brainstorm how to raise funds.

Like Cassie mentioned, I don't think we need any money (or publicity) so I would be against a fund raiser or ads - at this time anyway.

An email to all members reminding them of the site, etc., sounds like an excellent idea.  Lets start a seperate thread to work out the wording?

In the future, if we need money, we could probably have a very successful auction.  The prizes raised for the story house slam were pretty good.  It seems most of us have interesting etheogenically related items laying around their houses they are not using.

Last time there wasn't much response to the t-shirts.  (The Gwyllm shirts, not the debacle by Eddy).  I think ATGS helped arrange it with Gwyllm and ended up buying several extras to make up the minimum order.  I got one and it was very nice.  I think maybe some people didn't order due to confusion over the time Eddy tried to do some shirts.

I liked the last shirt.  Very simple with just "Spiritplants" on it.

What was the deal with Eddy and the shirts? As I recall, he just refused to pay for them. Or that's what the other guy said and Eddy didn't deny it. One good thing about the new spf is that Eddy isn't running it. He seemed like an OK guy, not knocking him but we don't need a repeat of certain things that happened back then.

If we do start raising money, we will need a treasurer. The person would most likely have to give up anonymity and be someone responsible. But, why worry about that before we have to?

Wow... it still trips me out when I think of all the people here I've known now for quite a few years and to whom I'd more than likely entrust my life to without a second thought.... yet, aside from a few stray pics for some, I've never laid eyes on.. And the closest to face-to-face has been SPF chatroom, and a few phone calls with Ray. It just kinda gets me, you know? Even during the last 2 years or so that I've been MIA (just lurking really) I'd still stop by whenever my spirit needed reassurance of hope.. It's communities like these, with the level of love and trust (for the most part) at it's purest, that give proof beyond a reasonable doubt that there is a heaven, whether manifested within ourselves or otherwise. I give my life to y'all.. when I read what's written and trust that it's innocent and truthful. As do you when you read my words (that is, givin you trust me).. It's a beautiful thing.. I'm gonna stop now, hehe, I sense another spout of ramblings coming on.. Love and Light,                                ~Dustin

P.S. Any old souls from DroolDonkey still haunting these parts?

Well put ,Methos! I feel the same way, some of my best friends I have never laid eyes on. Who said you can't get to know someone online.
Long live the noble experiment of SPF!!

I think I have seen pictures of JRL from his CD cover and off his old website. I only ever actually met 1 SPFer irl. All in all, I have seen many more images of all of your plants than any of your faces. But it was a blast getting to know some of you though and hearing of your adventures and hardships over the years.

Heck though, anyone with a MySpace can see current pics of me online. But then, I mentioned MySpace here once and everyone was all like "bah, myspace sucks!" and "I deleted my profile because their support refused to help me." and such.

Personally, the ammount of problems I run into utilizing MySpace is shadowed by the exposure it tends to bring with it's insane popularity (compared to other internet communities), which is especially helpful for musicians and artists and whatnot.

But to each their own. Rock on SP! Woooo!

Holy jeez-- has it been over a year already?  Damn!

I ain't talking so much in the forums nowadays (and can't remember when I was last in chat) but I still poke my head in on a near-weekly basis to see whatchu all up to.  I do still like to listen to SPF radio some evenings when I'm still at work for the Man, when the squares have all gone home....

I've only ever met one old SPFer in the flesh, and he was a good 'un.  God knows what he thought of me.  :)  (which reminds me, I should see what's he's up to.)  But I've met a fair few good people here that I place a lot--- mebbe too much?  naw!--- trust in.  With good folks, sometimes you just know.

Ya'll's good people.  I hope SPF is always our home, wherever it may be....

edit:  I'm down with another t-shirt, if we go down that path.  I wear mine purty often in warm weather (the glued-on chicken feathers are starting to fall off) but no "hallo!'s" yet, tho.  :)   And I'd certainly participate in an auction....

Hi,  I for one am glad the site is backl and running, bar none minus all of my photo posts which someone removed against Eddy's wishes.

And or yes, while Eddy had problems, he really is a cool person once you get to know him.
I know he stuck  up for me over some shit that was flying.

I for one am glad the site is here and I too wish more people would stop by.

The site is listed in my links pages at mj shroom world.

Now regarding T-shirts.

I have made recently shirts for the new site Shroomtalk.com form designs made m by my photos of shrooms and the art of my friend in Thailand.

I actually made shirts for a few sites.

Showed the products and then took orders.

Well today, I have shirts that people ordered and never bought so I was stuck with them.  Hard to sell a site shirt to others.

I even have a shirt I had made of Hawkseye globe/shroom image and it has the name John. Still cannot find anyone named John to buy it.

Still a shirt is a cool idea

have a shroomy day,
