Carob pods and leaves contains a valium-like substance that binds with central and peripheral benzodiazepine receptors. The amount of the substances recovered from Carob pods and leaves was respectively 12.17 and 18.7 ng diazepam equivalent/g. The compounds acting on peripheral benzodiazepine receptors were found to be extremely concentrated in the young leaves (14).

So about 100 - 400 g for a good buzz.

I don't know, I haven't calculated it out.  I think a solid dose of benzo's is 6-10mgs right?  And according to the first refferenct the the young leaves carry aprox (2572.57 ng PK 11195 equivalent/g) of said alkaloids.

so lets see,a nanogram is 0.000000001 grams right?  So 2572,57 nanograms is how many micrograms? 275mc's?..... am I right there? that would make one gram, .27 milligrams right?, so 40gram=10mg........ if I'm right.

no, no, I got it wrong.  that .000011195 per gram, which is 0.01 milligrams per gram.  So thats yep, 400 grams per 10 milligrams.

Doh!

A lot of herbs work on the benzodiazepins but not brutal as valium.
Probably about the same here, but maybe cool.

Catnip, scull cap herb, valerian root, Gaurani sage and several other sages all have benzo like effects.

Despite the emphasis upon their MAOI effects many betacarbolines have  benzodiazepine like effects.

So 400 grams per dose...but let's start talking about extracts...that's like, 20 grams of a 20X  extract...I'm not sure what these Benzo's are soluable in, but i'm sure it can be done.  Might be interesting...and we all know that alcohol will potentiate the calming effect of benzos, so maybe 10grams of 20x dissolved into a nice homemade alcoholic tincture...

Or what about smoking extracts?  We all also know that some plants are way more potent when smoked than when orally taken (salvia).  There's so much to be explored here!  *le sigh* if only I had a greenhouse and more time.  :)
