There have been a few issues lately that have seem to have rubbed some people the wrong way... Yeah, OK, that's to be expected I guess. What strikes me as a bit unusual is that this site is an ongoing community of the old SPF, and it was a fairly well accepted practice that we maintained a certain sense of decorum, hence The "Black Tie" designation.... Anybody else notice how people seem to be more ready and willing to use inflamatory/rude/vulgar comments here, as opposed to the old haunt???? Just an observation, Thass all-------------- sal
agreed, sal, but i think maybe because it's a re-invented community, it's a little more Wild West than the old one...just a thought...not all of it is justified, of course...
PS--moved this thread to the Long House 8)
Hell, I noticed it too Sal...hard to miss.
Seems like it doesn't take but the drop of a hat to get some all riffled up into a rictus grin. CHOMP!!
I'm guessing too much DHEA.
Getting to the point you need asbestos underwear. (See Mine? They've got Flash Gordon on 'em!)
Looking for a glimmer in my couch cushions,

Naw, I saw some flame wars at the old SPF that actually seem almost identical to the ones here.
IMHO they were worse at the old place. Remeber Fodgers, Sphere, El Oso. the T shirt controversy?
We still have one of the best signal to noise ratios anywhere.
Thank you and leave it on!
i, too, believe that we're seeing a rare but known phenomenon: touchiness to perceived slime.
If a two-timing fast talking salesperson shows up at the door, there's gonna be a reflex reaction.
It'll take credentials to prove that the salesperson is honourable, ye, better yet, a true friend.
Touchiness to the knock on the door has developed over repeated incidents of exposure to less than positive vibes.
This reaction awaits in the closet, ready to jump.
i'm an observer here - i don't open the door to salespeople. i don't play their telephone games. When i want something, i'm the one to go out shopping. i don't dig those who try to sweet talk me.
But this site is definitely high comfort zone, most of the time.
best to all

======================================= Never percieved it quite like that.... --- On reflection, You are absolutely right JRL (signal to noise is at acceptable level 'fer sure) Ha, Yeah, who could forget the Sphere-Fodgers-T-Shirt-Elendil-etc fiascoes  :P --------- Gives me a new perspective on the new digs.... Gracias for the cerebral lens cleaning Herr Docktor JRL :D ---- Judih; sis---- As always a clearsighted outlook bursting with insightful observations..... Guess I was sorta overreacting to what will be the inevitable ripple on 'da placid pool------------- sal
I think we all have highly developed bullshit detectors here, sacramental side effect, no doubt.
Ego sticks out like a sore thumb.
I call bullshit!
haha just kidding JRL, I do agree with you on that note.

Could be but more observation will tell the tale. It does sound odd. Some day they will have bots that no one can differentiate from real people.
